Practical guidance for interpreting transformer evidence. Explore DGA, insulating fluids, paper ageing, electrical tests, maintenance decisions and responsible uses of AI. Articles distinguish measurements, method assumptions and engineering judgement, with references and worked examples where useful.
Five areas, each grounded in the published standards. Pick the one that matches the decision in front of you.

A live map of the diagnostic domain: the standards that govern it, the methods that interpret it, the gases that carry the signal, and the faults, oil and paper condition they resolve to.
This text accompanies the educational topic map above. It describes relationships in transformer diagnostics, not a claim that every topic is implemented as a RONIN calculation.
A health index summarises selected condition evidence; it is not a probability of failure. DGA methods address different questions and use different gases. Their suitability depends on the fluid, equipment and sampling context. ASTM D3612 concerns gas analysis methods, while IEC and IEEE interpretation guides address how results are evaluated.
Duval Triangle 1 uses methane, ethylene and acetylene proportions. Pentagons 1 and 2 use five gases, including hydrogen and ethane. Other triangles have distinct scopes and applicability conditions. A geometric zone supports fault interpretation; it does not establish severity or an operating decision by itself.
Furans and carbon oxides can contribute evidence about cellulose condition, with important limitations. They do not provide a reliable countdown to failure. Oil assessment depends on the fluid and test method. Bushings, tap changers and other components require their own evidence, while maintenance priority also depends on asset criticality.
The knowledge base helps answer specific technical questions. Ronin AI, now in release preparation, connects applicable diagnostic methods with uncertainty, asset history, Action Plan and reporting.
